Deer in Snow
I came across this herd of deer one cold and snowy morning in Windsor Great Park.
I’d come to this spot every morning that week but no deer to be seen. On the 3rd morning I managed to get the photo I’d been waiting for. The next day the snow had started to thaw and I never got another chance. They were so busy digging through the snow for food that they didn’t notice me apart from one who looked up and seemed to give a warning call to the others.

Up and Away
We’d taken off from Oxford city centre. Looking up inside the balloon canopy was like looking into a circus tent. I loved the patterns made by the fabric panels and seams. Then the sudden burst of flame from the burners. The Yellow and Orange of the flame went well against the Bright Red of the balloon and the incredible heat produced a heat haze which distorts the image a little. At that point I wish I’d heeded the advice to wear a hat to protect my head from the heat.
Among the Clouds
Whilst hiking with friends near Mont Blanc in the French Alps, we stopped for a breather and map check on a small plateau surrounded by hills and with clouds both above and below us.
I took a few correctly exposed shots but they didn’t have any impact so I tried this silhouette. For me it works and really adds to the atmosphere created by the clouds, the graduated recession of the hills in the background and the sense of vastness of this awe inspiring region.
Curfew Tower
Having lived in Windsor for many years I’ve seen the Curfew Tower countless times but on this day the combination of the deep Blue sky and wispy clouds, the Jubilee banners and the Tower itself, made me want to take this picture.
The clock and the sky alone would make for a fairly uninteresting image, but with the flag in the foreground, it adds an extra dimension, colour and pageantry.

Tranquility
This was taken on a deserted Pembrokeshire beach on midsummer’s night , the longest day of the year, with the sun not setting until after 10 o’clock. Families and dog walkers were long gone leaving a tranquil scene and the pools of water left behind by the receding tide reflecting the fading sunlight.
Eton Jubilee
Taken in Eton High Street during the Queen’s jubilee celebrations in 2012, I took the opportunity of nice weather and Blue sky to wander around the town with my camera.
I was really taken with this vibrant and happy scene with the flags and bunting being enjoyed by people making the most of the good weather.

Teamwork
These two dogs (a working cocker and a springer spaniel) were having a great time charging around and fighting over the stick. In the end they both got hold of it and seemed quite happy working together. Luckily I was in the right place to get the shot.
Silver Treetops
It was an amazing experience, skimming over the treetops in a hot-air balloon. Looking straight down into the tree canopy, the woods were eerily silent and a bit spooky.
Although effective in full colour, I felt that with the intricate patterns and textures it would work really well as a monochrome image with a cool, selenium tone.
